NOTE: THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 07-02-94, DATED MAR. 4, 1994 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. REVISIONS ADD 1995 AND ES VEHICLES AND ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS**. NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.3L OR 3.8L ENGINE. SYMPTOM/CONDITION: If the vehicle is driven through deep or drifted snow the serpentine drive belt may be forced off of its pulleys by snow coming in between the belt and the pulleys. DIAGNOSIS: Determine the road conditions the driver of the vehicle was encountering at the time the serpentine belt came off. Verify all of the pulleys are in proper alignment and pulleys and accessories are properly attached. If the driver of the vehicle indicates deep or drifted snow may have been a factor in the serpentine belt coming off its pulleys and any pulley mis-alignment and/or accessory/pulley attachment problem has been corrected, perform the following repair procedure. PARTS REQUIRED: Quantity Part No. Description 1 4773892 Shield 1 6501926 Nut/Washer AR 4612411 Belt, Serpentine 1991 - 1992 With A/C AR 4612460 Belt, Serpentine 1993 - 1995 With A/C AR 4612418 Belt, Serpentine 1991 - 1995 Without A/C REPAIR PROCEDURE: This bulletin involves attaching a shield to the power steering pump and the power steering pump bracket that prevents snow from coming in between the serpentine belt and the power steering pump pulley. Re-install the serpentine drive belt or replace with a new belt if damaged. Remove the second from the bottom bolt that attaches the power steering pump bracket to the engine block. ( See Illustration) NOTE: ON EARLY BUILT 1991 MODEL VEHICLES, IF THERE IS A TAB ON THE POWER STEERING BRACKET THAT INTERFERES WITH THE FIT OF THE SHIELD, IT IS NECESSARY TO SAW IT OFF. DO NOT BREAK THE TAB OFF. Position the shield (P/N 4773892) so its mounting hole (closest to the oval cutout of the shield) goes over the stud on the back of the power steering pump and the other mounting hole is aligned with the hole of power steering pump bracket from which the bolt was removed in step 2. Install the lower power steering pump bracket attaching bolt and torque to 30 - 50 ft. lbs. (40.7 - 67.8 Nm). Install nut/washer (P/N 6501926) on the stud at the back of the power steering pump and torque to 30 - 50 ft. lbs. (40.7 - 67.8 Nm). POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty. |
